2nd Annual Into The Light 5k Walk/Run – May 4, 2019

When: May 4th, 2019

Where: Rutgers University, Cook Campus, New Brunswick, New Jersey

What: Into The Light hosted their 2nd Annual 5k Walk/Run to raise awareness around mental health issues. Amidst initial concerns of inclement weather, the day turned out nothing but blue skies and tremendous sunshine – a fitting setting for this wonderful event.

The start of the event featured Artemis and Sophia addressing the attendees thanking them for their support and contributions. Followed by Artemis and Sophia were Alexa Rai Conners, professional MMA fighter, Matt Sefcik, a recent graduate of Wagner College and future Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and Mark Farrel, host of the Jersey Shore’s 107.1 The Boss. All three of the guest speakers shared emotional yet empowering personal stories about their struggles with mental health issues and the steps they took along the way to overcome adversity.

After Mark’s inspirational story, the runners gathered at the starting line for the highly anticipated main event. Over 600 participants took part in running and walking the course!

The 2nd Annual 5k was a huge success! Many thanks to every volunteer, participant, and donor for making the event possible.

To date, Into The Light has raised $53,000 from the event and is still accepting donations until July through our website or at runsignup.com/Race/Donate/NJ/NewBrunswick/IntoTheLightUs

All contributions made to the Into The Light 5k Run/Walk benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Rutgers University Counseling Center.
